Ohkura Tadayoshi was uke.
He loved being on the bottom for sex, but more than that he loved being uke in the relationship as well. He liked to be held, and babied and looked after. Unfortunately, perhaps due to his height, most people assumed he was seme, including his exes. He'd become used to being the holder rather than the holdee, but his boyfriends had almost never gone on top, leaving him feeling like something was always missing in the relationships and resulting in his current single status.
Yasuda Shota was seme.
Sure, he was often labelled as 'the cute one' but that was an image right? And he has been known to cry, but usually those are tears of frustration rather than crybaby tears. No, Yasuda very much wanted to be on top. He wanted to be the strong one, the one who looked after his partner. He wanted someone to fall asleep in his arms for once. But he'd resigned himself to being considered 'the cute little guy' and was currently single as a result.
Both boys had been growing closer of late. They tended to sit together on breaks- Ohkura tried to teach Yasuda how to drum and Yasuda helped Ohkura rip his own jeans. They'd known each other for years but the relationship was beginning to take a different turn. They started being more physically close with each other, and flirting.
Without realising it, they took on the roles that they expected the other wanted. Yasuda giggled more around Ohkura. He would stand too close and gaze up at the taller man. He brought Ohkura bento if they needed it. Ohkura sat up straighter so Yasuda could lean into him. He played with the older man's hair. He gave Yasuda jewellery and fed him bites of food at lunchtimes.
Little by little, they fell into a relationship. Both felt that they suited each other, in every way but one.
For their first kiss, Ohkura pulled Yasuda towards him. For their first date, Ohkura picked up Yasuda in his car. The first time they made love, Ohkura looked down at Yasuda and Yasuda looked up at Ohkura. Both had resigned themselves to their respective roles. Both of them cared about the other so much they were willing to live as the other wanted.
Until one birthday dinner...
Yasuda had cooked for Ohkura's 21st. They were drinking coffee when Ohkura mentioned dessert.
“I'm your dessert!” Yasuda giggled and clapped his hands. “It's your birthday so I'll do anything!”
“Anything?” Ohkura's eyes lit up.
“Anything.”
“Would you...I mean, would it be ok if you...well, could you...” Ohkura trailed off, not quite willing to say it out loud and spoil their relationship.
“Would I what?” Yasuda asked softly.
“Would you go on top?”
Yasuda's eyes widened in shock. Ohkura saw this and began backtracking.
“If you don't want to it's ok...it's not important...I mean, I just...wanted to-”
“I want to” Yasuda interrupted.
“You...want to?” Ohkura asked doubtfully.
“I really want to.”
The two boys looked at each other, there was a spark in their eyes that had never been there before. Yasuda stood up slowly. He took a firm hold of Ohkura's hand and led him to the bedroom.
Now things were different. They hadn't reversed completely of course. Old habits die hard, and Yasuda admits it's nice to be held sometimes. But mostly he prefers holding Ohkura, falling asleep with the younger man in his arms and keeping him safe from the world. Ohkura seems less tense these days. He cuddles up on the sofa with his head in his boyfriend's lap, he pouts when he doesn't get his way and giggles when he does.
Of course, I knew they'd be perfect for each other from the start. Everyone else was clueless. Ohkura and Yasuda are not the only ones playing up to an image...
Yours faithfully,
'the idiot one'
