Travolta, Newton-John reunite for A380 arrival

<script type="text/javascript"></script>John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John reunited today to give Qantas's new super jumbo, the A380, a Hollywood-style red carpet premiere in Los Angeles.
The A380 made history this morning when it landed at LA international airport filled with passengers who boarded in Melbourne. It was the first time an A380 with paying passengers touched down at the airport.
Travolta was dressed in his Qantas pilot suit and Newton-John, showing off a figure reminiscent of the one that sizzled in their 1978 musical Grease, wore Qantas's new flight attendant uniform.
"It's just an awesome plane," Travolta told AAP before a ceremony on the southern side of the airport.
The A380 was parked next to Travolta's Boeing 707 passenger jet.
Travolta - named Qantas Ambassador-at-Large in 2002 - is qualified to fly Boeing 707s and said he planned to undergo the necessary training to pilot the A380.
He admitted he had already been behind the controls of the super jumbo, although was reluctant to give details.
"I'm limited to what I can tell you about it, but I was the first non-test pilot to get a chance to fly it and it was awesome," he said.
Travolta's home in Florida is built on an airstrip and allows him to park his Boeing 707 in his backyard, along with his Gulfstream jet.
The 54-year-old star of Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Face/Off and Swordfish is one of Hollywood's highest-paid leading men, earning $US20 million ($28.88 million) a film, but he admitted the A380 was out of his financial league.
"Geez, I don't think I can afford that," he laughed when asked if he had pondered buying one.
But the $US300 million-plus price tag has not stopped the world's super-rich from opening their cheque books. Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal last year became the first individual to purchase an A380."
