「関西版FIVE」として、内・安田・丸山・今山・水野の5人編成で結成されたバンド。当初はFIVE-WESTと表記し全員ギターを担当したが、間もなくユニット名をV.WESTと改名。それぞれ別の楽器を担当するようになる。
関西ジャニーズJr.の中心メンバーであった渋谷すばる・横山裕・村上信五・錦戸亮が主に東京を中心に活動していたため、その留守を預かる形で関西を中心に活躍し、バラエティ番組『週刊V.WEST』やCM「あぶりコーン」などに出演。のちに今山・水野が脱退。安田・丸山が推薦した大倉がドラム担当として加入する。
2002年12月18日、それまで内・安田・丸山が関西ジャニーズJr.として出演していたバラエティ番組『J3KANSAI』（2002年10月～2003年3月）内で、大倉も含めたメンバーによる新しいユニット・関ジャニ8（のちの関ジャニ∞）が結成される。以降、V.WEST名義での活動はなくなるが、関ジャニ∞のコンサートで見る事も出来るため、解散というよりは関ジャニ∞に吸収・合併されたという見方も出来る。

A little after Uchi Hiroki entered Johnny&Associates in 1999, a new Kansai Jr unit was formed; a band called V.WEST ("five-west"). The members were:
V.WEST had a regular TV show, Weekly V.WEST, shown on Kansai TV. The band was also popular enough to hold its own live concert. Imayama Toru(今山透) and later, Mizuno Kiyohito(水野清仁), left V.WEST and Johnny's for other pursuits before Kanjani∞ was formed.
Ohkura Tadayoshi, the 8th Kanjani∞ member, had actually been invited to play drums for V.WEST before its formation. But he wanted to dance and thought that an instrument would tie him down. He therefore declined the position, which he later regretted. He was a member of Johnny's unit MAO for a while. He got a second offer to be V.WEST's drummer when Johnny Kitagawa wanted an 8th member to form Kanjani∞ (reportedly because their TV show was being aired on Kansai TV's channel 8!).
Circa 2001, Kansai Jrs suffered a period of neglect. Before they knew it, their activities had dwindled to a trickle. Shibutani, Yokoyama and Murakami returned to Osaka. It was a difficult period and future prospects seemed very dim. They got part-time jobs elsewhere. Shibutani later admitted to being lost, but it was also during this time that he managed to subsequently reaffirm his passion and calling for singing. In the same boat was Nishikido, who was once on the super-elite Johnny's course. Reflecting on his past faults, he regretted taking previous opportunities for granted. It seemed to late now. Still, they all persisted.

后来是有的，好象8以前的03年还是哪一年的演唱会吧，松竹座还是什么的，（年纪大了，看过就健忘= =）用VW这个组合唱的时候，就是MARU，YASU，UCHI，OKURA四人

他自己说的VW结成时让他做鼓手他不干没进VW
等到02年12月时他进来就直接叫eito了，他到底哪时候算过VW的倒是给我说说呀
